Summer Wedding Wears: How to beat the heat this wedding season.

Lightweight fabrics and the hottest hues to beat the heat this wedding season.

It’s summer and you’re heading to a wedding. Whether it’s yours or you’ve been invited, you want to look and stay cool. For your sake, we hope it’s indoors, but if the venue is a courtyard or a backyard, you’re going to need Onore’s guidelines for choosing a summer suit.

LIGHTWEIGHT FABRIC

Summer’s always hot but these days it’s been especially so. One way to not stew in the sweltering heat is by choosing the right material for your suit. We suggest breathable materials, like seersucker, linen, cotton, worsted and fresco wool. So what do we mean by breathable? Basically it means that these fabrics allow air to circulate between your skin and the clothing. Hence keeping you cooler. Natural fabrics like cotton and wool, sit further off the skin and do a better job of that than a synthetic material like spandex. There’s actually an equation and a machine that measures breathability. We’re not making this stuff up!  We don’t have that machine at the store, but we do have plenty of fabric options; and if we don’t have what you need in stock, then we’ll just have to make it!

LIGHT COLORS

Now that we’ve talked about material, let’s talk about color. The trend these days is toward lighter hues, pastels to be exact. Think baby blue, sandy beige, and soft grey. Lighter colors help you stay cool in the heat. The logic is that dark tones attract the sun while lighter ones reflect it. Didn’t think you’d be getting a fashion and physics lesson, huh? Not only do the lighter suits help you stay cooler, they’re also more contemporary. That means that they can be added as staples to your summer wardrobe for seasons to come. If the long haul makes you nervous, don’t sweat it - when you buy with us, alterations are included with the cost of your garment for its lifespan. So we’ll help keep those summer wears fresh even if that jacket gets a little tighter in the seams.

THE FIT

Speaking of tighter seams, the slim cut is still trending. We said slim - not skinny. And while you can always choose a slim cut suit, we think that something that’s a little roomier works better when sitting or standing under the sweltering sun. That’s very important, especially if you’re a dancer. You’re going to want to stick to the notion of where there is space, there is free flow. Your moves will definitely flow better in something tapered, not tight. We have a wide selection of more relaxed fitting pants, sports jackets and suits at the store. Plus we have a team of terrific tailors at the store who will get you the perfect fit on any item that you choose.

 THE ACCESSORY

One really obvious way to keep cool in the summer sun is to not wear a tie. If you go in that direction, a subtle mandarin collar makes for a nice touch. You might even consider a lightweight ascot instead of a tie, if you really want to add a little “Je ne sais quoi.” to the fit. A lapel pin also makes for a really cool accessory to add a nice touch during the summer. We’ve got a variety of pins for summer and beyond. You can also choose pocket squares that pops or socks that make a statement.  If you want to make an even stronger statement,  wear no-show socks with a pair of comfy loafers. They are subtle but will still catch the eye.

So come on over to the store and let us know what catches your eye. Our team is always willing to walk you through summer suiting and beyond. We’re here to make you a man, for all seasons.
