Dressing For Your Wedding Day

Your Options & How to Prepare

We’ve sprung forward, the air is still crisp but losing some of that bitter bite. It can only mean one thing.

It’s wedding season! Oh, you thought we meant Spring?

Well, it’s both. This season of renewal brings out the lovebirds, many of whom make it to the shop looking for just the right fit for their big day. SO, what to wear? Let’s jump in with some thought starters.

Is the wedding a black tie event or a backyard bonanza?

What’s the wedding day color palette?

What is your partner wearing?

Are we styling from scratch or do you have an IG full of inspirational looks?

All of those questions should get your creative flowing, and they’re important details that your Onore Clothier will need to know, but when it comes down to it, price tag is usually the #1 factor in making this wedding day decision. So how much do you want to spend? From the highest to the lowest price tag, your options are custom, ready-to-wear and finally, rentals. We often tell our clients, “If your partner is shelling out beaucoup bucks on their gown, don’t be the schlub who gets schlepped to the party.” Meet your partner where they are so that you both shine on your big day.

CUSTOM SUITING

So here’s the 4-1-1 on a custom suit or tuxedo - this is an experience for someone looking to design a garment that is truly unique or someone who may find it difficult to shop popular sizing.

Custom is the process by which we build you a suit from the ground up. An Onore Clothier will sit with you to choose everything from your suit material, color and pattern, to the style of your lapel and the color of your button stitching. We’ll discuss linings and how to tie in special details that help you commemorate the big day. Our partner mill will cut your custom piece, and in-store our tailors will finish the garment to your tastes. We know, it sounds intense, but it can be a blast. Trust us!

A custom adventure takes an average of 8 and 10 weeks and pricing typically opens around $1,600 and goes north from there, depending on the fabric and trims chosen.

Something to be mindful of - give yourself the lead time to get your order in, but do your best to line up any body goals with your measuring day. Alterations can compensate for 5 of 10 pounds here or there, but large scale weight loss or weight gain will impact your custom experience.

READY-TO-WEAR

If you’re an easy fit or looking to keep your look more classic, then maybe skip custom and head on over to our stocked collection.

So what is an “off-the-rack” or “ready-to-wear” tailored suit? A tailored suit simply means we choose one of our finely made Italian suits off our racks (Get it ?) and fit the garment to your body. That can mean shortening the sleeves on your jacket, taking in the sides for a slimmer look, or tapering your trouser legs. Every body needs different alterations to ensure their most striking 007 pose, so ready yourself to try on a few pieces.  Pricing opens at around $1,000 for the suit, plus the cost of accessories. Alterations are included with the cost of each garment.

The alteration process can take about two to four weeks depending on our tailor shop, so we ask that you come see us at least 1 month before your event. Remember this is on the conservative end. Anything worth having can take a little time, so tailoring and fine tuning will take more than one visit. In short, don’t be the guy who waits till the night before the assignment is due to pull an all-nighter. Give us the time we need and we will help you shine. Plus, the earlier you come in, the more likely it will be that we can assure you the fit of your dreams.

RENTALS

The final option is the suit or tuxedo rental, which is ideal for the groom on a budget or for the members of a larger wedding party. And while rentals do not allow for the fine, detailed work that our tailors would do on an Onore garments, we can promise you a proper hem and proper sleeve length. Just make us one promise - don’t expect the rental to fit you like it does the guy in the catalog - that guy definitely had alterations.

Rentals have a pretty quick turnaround, about a week to 10 days, and start at about $300, depending on the style chosen and whether or not you also rent shoes. We recommend getting measured and submitting your order at least 1 month before your event though, just to ensure your chosen style is available.

IN SUMMARY

A tailored or custom suit or tuxedo may not be for everyone, but it’s one of those investments that will keep on giving. Take it from someone who has had the experience, a nicely tailored garment can make you feel like a giant amongst men and can come in handy far beyond your wedding day.
