Materials Matter: Four Natural Fibers from Luxe to Ultra-Luxe
At Onore, we believe that good, quality materials are the foundation of good, quality clothing. That’s why we’re highlighting the fit and characteristics of four natural fibers from our cold-weather collection, each ranging from luxe to ultra-luxe.
As we write this, the temperature outside is 9 degrees. 🥶
So what choice do you have but to make the most out of warmest gear then?
Alpaca
Feel: seriously soft
Wear: rugged but opulent
So your person hit it out of the park this year and gave you an alpaca sweater. Now what? Let’s start with the basics. Wool can come from a variety of animals, most commonly sheep. It’s a premium, natural material that’s durable, versatile, and great for warmth. One type of wool is alpaca, which is softer, silkier, and more durable than sheep’s wool, making it the ultimate choice for a super soft sweater. Variant in weight and bulk, though often the thicker option when it comes to sweaters, the garment can work with or without a sport coat or jacket. Pair it with a leather coat, for example, for that extra warmth and an edgy yet refined style, or take it out solo and let its natural thermal properties do the work. The alpaca sweater is versatile, lighter than sheep’s wool so you’ll never feel weighed down, but softer and just as warm. This is the ideal choice for a look of rugged elegance, unparalleled warmth, and a fair price point.
Cashmere
Feel: it doesn’t get softer
Wear: trim and fitted
An ultra-luxe, buttery soft material from the undercoat of a cashmere goat. Light in weight and great for ease of movement, cashmere is the ideal choice for staying warm without the bulk. For the below-freezing wind chill, opt for your cashmere sweater and layer it with a leather, shearling, or car coat for a naturally polished look. And if that special someone outdid themselves this season, add in the cashmere gloves and scarf – the options for styling are limitless with this timeless material. Overall, cashmere is the ideal option for a breathable, trim-fitted style that’s great for layering. It’s ultra-soft with a natural crimping, a slight wave in its texture that allows for elasticity and suppleness, and the material will actually mold to your body over time. A cashmere sweater will always be uniquely yours.
Mohair
Feel: comparable to silk
Wear: structured and refined
Mohair comes from the fleece of an Angora goat. A luxe material, it’s rarer than sheep’s wool and richer in sheen, which is why it has an ulterior name: the diamond fiber. In general, mohair is a lighter material than wool, but it still holds its structure for a tailored look. This breathable material is often used in our sports coats for its resilience to cold-weather climates and naturally structured fit for a defined shape and sharp silhouette – it’s what gives our sports coats those clean lines and that extra polished appearance. Due to its natural elasticity, mohair keeps its shape and offers a sharp, tailored look.
Wool and Silk Blend
Feel: featherlike comfort
Wear: light and breathable
Wool is warm, long-lasting, and durable, but since we are who we are, we have to take it to the next level. In our collection of luxury sports coats, our wool is often blended with silk or cashmere for a softer, more flexible feel. While wool is wrinkle-resistant and moisture-wicking, silk gives the garment an elegant drape, enhancing the way the garment falls over the body. The wool and silk blend sport coat combines the strengths of two premium and luxurious fibers offering a lightweight, dressy-casual option with next level elegance and that “just right” fit.
